Robert Dietz – RIP To My Idea Of You

We're not sure what Robert Dietz has been up to since his last vinyl outing in 2021, but by the sounds of this Nous Kla'er Audio debut, it has probably involved a lot of musical daydreaming. You see, the five varied tracks on show have a colourful, nostalgic and often melodious feel, with Dietz throwing in references to everything from eyes-closed breakbeat-driven deep house (luscious opener 'Crop Circle') and the sunrise-friendly colour of early trance (the undulating deep house shimmer of 'Should I Get A Dog'), to the rushing energy of basement-bothering rave-era jack-tracks (the acid bass-propelled heaviness of 'RIP To My Idea of You'), and the flat-on-your-back bliss of early 1990s ambient (the violin-laden, flotation tank wonder that is 'Picking Grapes'). As a result, it's a uniformly excellent EP with tracks to suit different dancefloor moods and scenarios.
