Unknown Artist – Roche Edits 004 (Sunglasses)

After almost four years away, the mysterious Roche Edits series returns with two more hush-hush remixes of a classic cut. This time round, our scalpel-wielding hero (or heroes) have turned their attention to a 1980s synth classic that later inspired and electroclash-era remake by Tiga and Zyntherius: Corey Hart's 'Sunglasses at Night'. Wisely, they've focused the action on the original's most memorable feature: a rising and falling, high-register synth melody that here sits beneath crackling tech-house beats and trippy noises. This is particularly evident on the flipside dub but also takes centre stage on the A-side vocal version, which naturally uses choice snippets from Hart's original mid-80s vocal. A simple idea brilliantly executed.
