Discotecas – Discotecas 008

An eighth outing for Apiento's inspired Discotecas series, which largely acts as a showcase for his edits and reworks of frequently obscure (but sublime) gems from the 80s and 90s. He's hit the jackpot - again - with 'Certamente', a tweak (we think) of a turn-of-the-90s Spanish record rich in delay-laden vocals, winding TB-303 acid lines, hybrid drum machine/breakbeat drums, and early house sonics. It's presented in both vocal and instrumental forms, with the latter including some of his source material's effects-laden vocalisations. Flip-side 'Pinballed' is, if anything, even better - a synth-powered slo-mo chugger in which blue-eyed soul style vocals drift above restless electronic bass, head-nodding drums, rising and falling 16-bit synth melodies and the dreamiest of chords. Whatever the source material, it's a future Balearic and slow-house classic.
