Suburban Architecture – Turning Point EP

Since debuting the Suburban Architecture project at the tail end of the last decade, Chris Read and James Curry have delivered rather a lot of high-quality music inspired by the classic sounds of mid-to-late-90s drum & bass (including last year's terrific Dancefloor Heritage Volume 1 LP). There's naturally plenty more nostalgic, musically expansive junglism to be found on the pair's latest four-track offering. Check first 'The Drifter', a deep, loved-up and glassy-eyed chunk of proto-liquid that wouldn't have sounded out of place on one of LTJ Bukem's pioneering late-90s compilations, before admiring the punchier but no less dreamy 'Turning Point'. The duo reaches for twinkling synth sounds, lazy trumpet solos and rolling beats on 'The Believer', while 'Memoriam' is a slab of melancholic, bittersweet dancefloor bliss.
